Greetings Adventurers! Welcome back to the League of Aroden blog where we go over the PFS Smackdown event. We had our restart July 10th and did quite well with it. A few players had to suddenly change plans, but that happens, especially at this time of the year. Thanks to everyone who came to the Smackdown. We did have two players at their very first PFS Smackdown and Organized Play session along with returning players. It is so good to see new faces and it was a thrill to see old faces. Our next PFS Smackdown is August 14th and we hope to see more new and old faces again!
Since we have the time restrictions, we might as well make good use of it and run some of the scenarios that have a well known tendency to run long and couple them up with some of the quests or bounties that are available as well. For August, we are going to feature PFS2 1-18: Lodge of the Living God (tiers 1-4) where the Pathfinder Society has been invited by a High Priest of Razmir to start a Pathfinder Lodge. This is the first time since Razmiran was established that this has occurred. Some experienced and grizzled Pathfinders may know why this is so, but many of the newer Pathfinders will not know the reason why. Either way, the leadership of the Society has responded to the invitation and is sending you to Razmiran as part of the team charged with establishing the new lodge. Do your best and don’t let down the Pathfinder Society!
We will have time to run at least one quest with this scenario, so for August we decided to go with Quest #10: The Broken Scales (tiers 1-4). This quest is set in the sewers of Absalom. Something has disrupted a rendezvous with the Sewer Dragons and Venture-Captain Drandle Dreng has picked you and some fellow Pathfinders to find out what caused that. This quest is a forerunner of later events that appear in the Season 2 metaplot. Bill and I have worked out a metaplot schedule for Seasons 1 and 2 we want to try to advance over the next year so that we can host a multi-table special (MTS) in June of 2022. Our goal is to try to build more of a connected story for continuity while also incorporating all of the adventures.
If time permits, GMs will offer another quest or bounty of their choice. A lot depends on how long the players take in playing 1-18. Reminder: Quests and bounties only take 60 to 90 minutes to play and are worth 1 XP and about 25% of the GP that a character would get in a regular scenario. Quests are from Season 1 only and cover tiers 1-4, 3-6, and 5-8. Bounties are L1 only but all are repeatable. Quests 1, 4, and 9 are repeatable as well. I have found these to be good for testing new character builds out as well as great for fitting in when time is a problem.
You can sign up for these events right now on our Warhorn page. It looks sparse, but there are two tables of each session in there. We decided not to post anything about a second quest or bounty because that is going to depend on the amount of time it takes to play 1-18. I have seen that one take six hours to play, but it is fun. This is a scenario that incorporates everything, roleplay, combat, social skills, teamwork, and even a bit of puzzle solving in order to successfully complete it. We will have a third GM available should we need to offer a third table of these sessions.
We are looking forward to seeing you at Valhalla’s Gate on August 14th!
