Greetings Adventurers! As we continue to restart our lodges across the League of Aroden area we are also expanding the number of lodges in the League. A few years ago during the summer, some students and I played a few games of Pathfinder Society at Java Jive in Hannibal, but the games stopped when they left to attend college in the fall. Prior to the pandemic shutdown, we had started to explore running games at the newest game store in Hannibal, Game Arena LLC, but obviously the shutdown and social distancing forced us to move into a waiting pattern. We finally got things rolling at the end of April this year and have been meeting pretty regularly ever since.
The lodge has been slowly building up a steady base of players which is remarkable considering the ongoing effects of the pandemic and summer. We are going to be reaching a point where multiple tables will be needed to handle the turnout which is just awesome! That means we will be looking for additional GMs so we can start a rotation where no one is a permanent GM.
Right now, the lodge has been running the Abomination Vaults Adventure Path along with Pathfinder Society 2e scenarios. When we do reach the point where we have to offer multiple tables, we plan to incorporate Society scenarios along with Adventure Paths (depending on player desires) and some shorter Adventures (2e modules lasting four or five sessions but giving Society credit). We are able to offer these Adventures in Hannibal because the lodge meets weekly instead of monthly.
This upcoming Thursday’s table will feature a Pathfinder 2e Society adventure from Season 1 which is one of the best Season 1 scenarios in my opinion. Yes, that’s right, it is 1-03 Escaping the Grave (1-4). This scenario is a followup to the carnage left in the wake of the Whispering Tyrant’s escape from his prison and devastation of the nation of Lastwall. It is without a doubt the most well written scenario of the early 2e releases and one during which players face multiple challenges that test their wits, combat strategies, exploration skills, and clock management. Some characters have failed to Escape the Grave!
I have the sign up for this scenario up on our Warhorn page. We use the Warhorn for sign ups in order to plan our tables at our weekly lodge night. I have not been using it much with Gryffyn Flight as we have not had multiple tables or ran over the maximum number of players, but we are going to reach this point this fall. I encourage our regular players to register on Warhorn and start signing up for the game in order to guarantee their seats at the table. Be sure to set the time on Warhorn to our US Central time. It sometimes defaults to US Pacific and that puts you two hours behind!
I do know that this Thursday’s session has some openings as a few of our regular players have prior commitments. The scenario is for levels 1-4 and as with most PFS2 products, very easy for new players to learn the basics of the game. When we do reach multiple tables, we may train a new GM with some Beginner Box runs or just move on into regular PFS2 scenarios. A lot of this depends on our players and what they want to play.
Also, something to look forward to. The Venture Officers in the League of Aroden are going over an ambitious plan to develop an unofficial Adventure Path that connects PFS2 scenarios from the Seasons 1 and 2 metaplots into a combined story where characters reach Level 9 and play all of the metaplot parts including the Season 1 multitable special. This will establish lore continuity for characters and can be interspersed with opportunities to play other scenarios with other characters. As Season 3 begins in August, we want to run some of the newer scenarios as well, but do want to offer the older scenarios so players can enjoy the metaplots that run through those seasons too.
If you are one of our regular Gryffyn Flight players, sign up for this Thursday’s session on Warhorn!
If you have a friend who wants to start playing, this is a great time to bring them to the table!
See you on Thursday!
