It’s that time of year when we begin to look at the upcoming holiday season and start making some plans. For many of us, it will be a time of great joy as we give and receive gifts. It is also a time for us to remember those who, for whatever reasons, are just less fortunate. Let’s help make the holidays better for some children across the nation. In order to help them out, we once again are organizing Toys of Boundless Wonder, our annual charity event to benefit the Marine Toys for Tots Program.
For 2023, we will begin the Toys of Boundless Wonder game period on November 24th, or as it is more commonly known as, Black Friday. The gaming period ends on December 10th. All Pathfinder and Starfinder Society games ran during that period and reported to us via our RPGChronicles reporting page will be entered on Paizo.com and earn the GMs and players bonus Achievement Points.
We will cap it all off with a run of PFS2 4-99 Blessings of the Forest, a multi-table special for levels 1-8 on December 9th. It is repeatable, so everyone can play or run it. This special table will begin promptly at 2:00 PM US Central time. Last year, we offered up 3-98 and had 18 tables across the US. We have high hopes this year that we will have far more tables and see even more toys donated to the Toys for Tots bins. We didn’t keep exact records last year, but we know more than $5000 was donated through our little event. I think we can top that figure easily this year and make Christmas a little brighter for more kids.
We feel that this event serves the gaming community in multiple ways. Naturally, having the opportunity to contribute to charity is easily the number one thing. But we also are helping our gaming stores and helping to build our local gaming communities. You all know I love going to cons, especially Gen Con. But not everyone in our gaming communities can make those journeys for all kinds of reasons. Some gamers are physically unable to attend cons while others have transportation issues. Even more gamers cannot make it to a con because they have to work or take care of their families. Not everyone is blessed enough to be able to take off a few days to attend a con. Of course, there is also the financial aspect to be considered as well.
That’s where Toys of Boundless Wonder helps to serve our local gaming communities. This is an opportunity to experience one of the famous (infamous?) multi-table specials that Paizo and the various creatives generate for us to enjoy. By offering this event simultaneously in the local game stores across the country, we enable more people to participate in one. Plus, everyone who participates in our Organized Play during the November 24 – December 10th time period earns bonus AcP. Not only that, but there is no cost for this event. All we ask is that you consider purchasing and putting toys in the Toys for Tots bin at your local game store. If they do not have one, please take the toys to one in the community. If you need help finding one, just let us know and we will find one for you. Yeah, Nicholas loves to find a bin for you!
As we get closer to the event, we will provide more details. We already have this year’s GM instructions ready. But we want to help you promote this a little bit more than we have in past years. Once someone goes to it, they will be able to find links for their local gaming community if they are participating in Toys of Boundless Wonder. We are going to update this page with information as communities get involved. We decided that it would be less confusing for players if the local gaming lodges did their own player sign-ups for the event. This is a live event, not online, so GMs and players will be gaming in their home gaming stores. Local GMs should use their Warhorns or Meetups as they need to.
